If you’ve got a Discover card sitting in a drawer somewhere, mostly forgotten because it never earned anything you could turn into a business class seat, pay attention this week. Discover to Capital One migration is happening now and nothing changes so far.

Starting July 27, 2026, your Discover account moves permanently onto Capital One’s platform. We are not sure yet if your dormant cash-back card into something worth carrying again. Capital One hasn’t told us how it will handle the new reward program. For now, you will earn standard cashback on you Discover cards.

What Actually Changes on July 27

During this Capital One and Discover migration, Discover’s own website and app has stopped working for account access on that date. Log into Capital One instead, and you’ll find your Discover account waiting there. Your card number, your rewards balance, and your account history are expected to carry over intact. Capital One has said cardholders won’t lose earned rewards in the move.

What Capital One hasn’t said yet is more interesting. Discover Cashback Bonus has always been a flat, simple program: a percentage back, no transfer partners, no way to turn it into a lie-flat seat to Tokyo. Capital One’s own Venture Miles do exactly that.

Whether Discover’s rewards eventually plug into that same ecosystem, or stay walled off as a separate, simpler product, hasn’t been clarified . Whether existing Discover cards eventually get reissued on Visa or Mastercard hasn’t been announced, but it’s the detail that actually matters if you’ve ever had a Discover card declined somewhere abroad.

Which Cards Are Affected

Every consumer Discover product moves: Discover it Cash Back, Discover it Miles, Discover it Chrome, Discover it Student Cash Back, and the Discover it Secured Credit Card.

Business accounts move too. If your account is open and in good standing on cutover day, it’s coming along whether you log in that day or not.

Our Take

If you’re the type of reader who already runs a reward credit card strategy with Chase or Amex doing the heavy lifting, Discover was probably never in your rotation to begin with. If you had a couple of Discover cards, you don’t need to do anything during this Capital One Discover migration. Log into Capital One instead of Discover starting July 27. This can be interesting if Capital One eventually builds a bridge between Discover and partners like Air Canada Aeroplan or Avianca LifeMiles.
