World of Hyatt is often seen as one of the best hotel loyalty programs out there—and for good reason. If you’re someone who enjoys great hotels, values elite perks, and wants to get more from your points, Hyatt delivers in a big way.

We have spent a lot of time in Hyatt hotels over the years. A pre-dawn airport stop at the Hyatt Regency LAX before flying to Hawaii. A base in Normandy at the Hyatt Place Rouen for a D-Day trip. Nights at Park Hyatts in Asia that would have cost $500 in cash, covered entirely with points transferred from Chase. The program has earned that loyalty honestly, and this guide is our attempt to explain why and how to get the most from it.

World of Hyatt is the smallest of the major hotel programs by property count, and that is actually part of what makes it good. Fewer properties means more consistent quality. Fewer elite members means upgrades that actually happen. Many travelers find that their points are worth more when used for free nights at Hyatt properties—especially luxury stays. In fact, Hyatt points regularly rank at the top of value charts, often worth 2 cents or more per point.

For example, you can book the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Del Monte Golf Course for 23000 points or $587+taxes. You can also book Hyatt LAX for 12000 points or your free night certificate. This redemption gives you a value of 2.3 CPP (Cents per point), which is great! If you are attending sporting events like football games or an F1 race, you can get much more value out of your points.

What Changed in May 2026

The most significant change to the World of Hyatt program in years took effect on May 20, 2026. Hyatt replaced its three-tier award pricing (off-peak / standard / peak) with a new five-tier structure: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top. This added more flexibility at the low end and more cost at the high end.

The award chart ceiling at each category increased as a result. Category 4 top pricing moved from 18,000 points to 25,000. Category 8 top pricing moved from 45,000 to 55,000. If you are redeeming on a high-demand night, expect to pay more points than you would have a year ago.

Then in June 2026, Chase cut the Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt transfer ratio from 1:1 to 4:3. That means 40,000 Chase points now gets you 30,000 Hyatt points instead of 40,000. If you were planning a redemption that required 25,000 Hyatt points, you now need to transfer 33,334 Chase points to cover it. Hyatt also moved 136 properties across categories in the May update. 112 moved up, 24 moved down. The biggest losses for US travelers: Hyatt Regency Seattle, Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, and the Hyatt at Walt Disney World all moved from Category 4 to Category 5. The wins: Hyatt Centric Austin, Dream Nashville, The Standard Singapore, and Grand Hyatt Athens all moved down into a lower category. How World of Hyatt Points Work

Hyatt points are worth roughly 1.5 to 2.0 cents each when used for free nights, depending on the property and the night. Luxury redemptions at Park Hyatt or Alila properties tend to land at the high end. Standard Hyatt Place stays land closer to 1.5 cents. Either way, this is among the best value in hotel points.

Points do not expire as long as your account has activity at least once every 24 months. One stay, one transfer, one credit card transaction is enough to reset the clock.

There are no blackout dates. If a standard room is available for cash, you can book it with points. Resort fees are waived on award stays, which alone can save $40 to $60 a night at resort properties.

Hyatt uses a fixed category system with dynamic pricing within each category. The new five-tier structure (Lowest through Top) replaced off-peak / standard / peak in May 2026. Standard room ranges per category:

Staying at Hyatt Hotels

The base earn rate is 5 points per dollar spent on room charges at most Hyatt properties. Elite members earn bonus points on top of that. A Globalist earns 30 points per dollar total, which adds up quickly on longer stays or higher-rate hotels.

Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

This is the fastest way to build a Hyatt balance without staying at a Hyatt. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to World of Hyatt, and if you hold a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred, every point you earn is a potential Hyatt point. One important change as of June 2026: the transfer ratio is no longer 1:1.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card

The Chase-issued World of Hyatt card earns 4 points per dollar at Hyatt properties, 2 points on dining, flights, gym memberships, and transit, and 1 point everywhere else. More importantly, it issues a Category 1-4 free night certificate every card anniversary. Spend $15,000 in a calendar year and you earn a second one. The card also gives you 5 qualifying night credits per year toward elite status, which means you start each year closer to Discoverist without doing anything extra.

Hyatt makes it easy to earn points in multiple ways. You don’t have to be a frequent traveler to build up a strong balance—just use the right tools and take advantage of the program’s flexibility.

Can You Buy World of Hyatt Points?

Yes! Hyatt lets you buy points directly through its website. This can be helpful if you’re just short of a redemption or want to top off your account for a specific booking.

You’ll typically get 2–3 cents per point in value when redeeming for luxury stays, which is hard to beat.

World of Hyatt has three elite tiers: Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist. Status is earned through qualifying nights, not spending, which matters because nights are harder to manufacture than dollars.

Discoverist (10 qualifying nights) gives you a 10% point bonus, room upgrades when available, and access to club lounge benefits at select properties. It is easy to reach and worth having if you stay at Hyatt even a handful of times a year.

Explorist (30 qualifying nights) adds a 20% bonus, club lounge access at most properties, and four Suite Upgrade Awards per year. Realistic for someone who travels for work regularly and routes some of those stays through Hyatt.

None of that is fatal, but you need to recalculate any redemption you were planning based on last year’s numbers. The points are still worth more than Hilton or Marriott, the elite benefits still actually show up, and the certificate is still one of the best annual card perks in travel.
