Amex Business has officially launched a new $300 annual statement credit. Amex Business ChatGPT credit is now now live on both the Business Platinum Card from American Express and the American Express Business Gold Card. Enrollment is required, so if you hold either card, head to your benefits dashboard and opt in before your next billing cycle.
I was very excited to see this offer. Turns out, this is a 2-for-1 subscription. You still need to spend $300 for the second seat.
If you have the need for multiple subscriptions, this is the way to go. If not, see if the additional features such as agents, privacy, and other things make sense for you.
What the Amex ChatGPT Business Credit Covers
The benefit gives cardholders up to $300 back per calendar year on U.S. purchases of ChatGPT Business subscriptions charged directly to the enrolled card. That applies to both the primary cardmember and employee card members on the same account.
A few things to know before you enroll:
- ChatGPT Business costs $25 per user per month when billed monthly, with a lower rate when billed annually. Annual billing requires a minimum of two users. See current pricing on OpenAI’s site.
- The plan requires a minimum of two users. At $25/user/month, two seats run $50 per month or $600 per year. The $300 credit covers roughly half that annual cost.
- Enrollment is required. The credit won’t apply retroactively. Go to your benefits page and activate it first.
- The subscription is subject to auto-renewal. If you only want the credit and not an ongoing subscription, set a reminder to cancel before it renews.
The credit applies to purchases made directly with OpenAI in the U.S. and U.S. territories. It won’t trigger through a third-party platform or digital wallet.
Which ChatGPT Plan Qualifies for Amex Business ChatGPT credit?
The credit applies to ChatGPT Business, the self-serve workspace tier for teams. OpenAI renamed this plan from ChatGPT Team in August 2025.
ChatGPT Business includes features that are useful for work: data excluded from model training by default, integrations with Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, SharePoint, and Atlassian, plus admin controls and centralized billing. Those features are the main reason to pay for this plan over a personal Plus or Pro subscription.
Who Actually Benefits From This Credit
If your business already pays for ChatGPT Business, this is a straightforward win. The $300 credit covers a meaningful chunk of the annual subscription cost. For a solo operator or small team already on the plan, that’s real money back.
The math gets less compelling for businesses not already using ChatGPT. Because the plan requires at least two users, you’d spend $600 per year on monthly billing to get $300 back. That’s a 50% return on spend which is solid, but only if the tool fits your workflow.
This fits the same pattern as the Amex $120 wireless credit on the Business Platinum — another tech-focused benefit that’s genuinely useful if you’re already spending in that category, and easy to overlook if you’re not.
Context: Another Credit in Amex’s Playbook
Amex has been stacking targeted statement credits onto its premium business cards for years. The Business Platinum already includes credits for wireless service, Dell purchases, Adobe, and more. The pattern is consistent: Amex adds niche credits, raises the annual fee to match, and leaves cardholders to decide whether the total package justifies the cost.
The Business Platinum fee increased to $895 last year when new lifestyle credits were added. The Business Gold is rumored to be facing a similar increase, potentially to $495. Adding a $300 ChatGPT credit while nudging the annual fee higher is consistent with how Amex has managed this playbook. If you hold either card, our annual benefits checklist is a good place to track which credits you’ve used and which still need activation.
This is also the first AI-specific statement credit on any major credit card. Whether it’s a one-time move or the start of a broader trend, it’s a notable addition to the Amex business card ecosystem.
Our Take
This credit is genuinely useful if your business already pays for ChatGPT Business. The $300 covers a significant portion of the annual cost. For everyone else, this is another Amex credit that requires spending into a specific product to unlock value. Enroll now if you’re interested, but think carefully before signing up for ChatGPT Business just to capture the credit. The two-user minimum means you’re spending at least $600 per year to save $300, and that only makes sense if the tool is actually going to get used.
