Earning airline miles without stepping on a plane is always appealing and this new promotion makes it unusually easy.

Right now, American Airlines AAdvantage members can earn 15,000 bonus miles just by switching a wireless line to AT&T. We suspect this is a part of their new partnership with ATT. If you already pay a phone bill, this is one of the simpler ways to pad your mileage balance.

If you decide to do this deal and not move your primary phone number, you can get a number at Tello or one of the prepaid carriers for $5 that you can move to ATT.

How the deal works

To qualify, you need to switch a wireless line from another carrier to AT&T and activate a smartphone on an eligible AT&T postpaid voice and data plan. You can either buy a new phone or bring your own device.

  • Go through this link
    • Once your start signing up, you will see a banner that says: “Congrats, you’re eligible to earn 15,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles when you transfer your number at checkout.”
  • Within 14 days of activating the line, you must complete the AT&T redemption form and enter your AAdvantage number. After that, keep your AT&T service active and in good standing for at least 60 days.
  • Once the qualification period is complete, the bonus miles are issued. In most cases, they post to your AAdvantage account 8–10 weeks after the 60-day mark.
    • A $35 activation fee applies, along with taxes and standard wireless charges, so this is not completely free.

Is it Worth it?

We value AA miles @1.2-1.5CPP. So at the higher end, you’re getting around $225 from these miles. For this, you will spend ~$155. ATT’s cheapest eligible plan is around $50+taxes. You have to pay a $35 activation fee. So $120+$35 activation fee = $155.

If you go through a Cashback portal such as TopCashBack, you get $100 back. If everything goes well, you can get 15000 miles for $55.

We think this is worth doing.
