Citi and American Airlines are overhauling the AAdvantage Executive Mastercard on August 23, 2026. The refresh brings a $100 annual fee hike, new statement credits, and a faster path to elite status. Given the recent hike in Admirals club membership price, this can be a good value if you fly AA and use their lounges.

Current cardholders don’t need to act, but anyone thinking about applying should move before the deadline to lock in today’s terms.

This card already has its own full review on our site, and we’ll be updating it soon to reflect these changes once those are live. If you want the bigger picture on how AAdvantage miles and status work, our AAdvantage program guide is a good place to start.

What the Refresh Covers

American and Citi say the card will offer up to $2,300 in annual value while continuing to include the card’s signature perk: an Admirals Club® membership with unlimited access. That’s the headline number behind this update.

Two new credits anchor the value increase. The card adds up to $500 annually toward American Airlines Vacations and up to $100 annually toward inflight and Admirals Club purchases. Together, those benefits can significantly offset the $695 annual fee.

Hotel and car perks are new too. The refresh adds complimentary Omni Hotels & Resorts Champion Status, an annual Omni free night reward after a qualifying stay, and Avis President’s Club status, with enrollment available through Aug. 31, 2028. A qualifying Omni stay means two or more consecutive nights booked directly through omnihotels.com, and enrollment in Champion Status is required.

Earning power is also getting a boost. Earnings on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings will rise from 10X to 12X miles. Citi is also expanding Loyalty Point bonuses, with 10,000 bonus points awarded after hitting 50,000, 90,000, 165,000, and 240,000 points in a qualification year. That pushes the maximum annual bonus from 20,000 to 40,000 Loyalty Points, which is the faster path to elite status behind this refresh.

Not everything is additive. New applicants approved on or after August 23 lose the Grubhub statement credit and the 25% inflight food discount. Existing cardmembers will continue to receive the inflight discount through Sept. 30, 2026, and the Grubhub benefit through Aug. 31, 2027.

Should you get it now?

Timing on the fee increase depends on tenure. Cardholders who’ve had the card over 12 months get notified in August or September 2026, with the new fee billed at their next anniversary date. Newer cardholders get notified in August 2027 instead.

Best case: you fly American often, use Admirals Club lounges, and book American Airlines Vacations packages. The $500 vacations credit alone can cover most of the fee increase. Add the Omni and Avis perks, and this card pulls ahead of most co-branded competitors.

Worst case: you rarely fly American and never book through Omni or Avis. In that scenario, the new credits go unused and the $100 fee hike is pure cost. The lounge access alone won’t justify $695 if you’re not flying enough to use it.

If you’re weighing this against other premium travel cards, our Citi credit card guide breaks down where each product fits. And if you’re close to Citi’s application limits, review Citi’s 48-month rule before you apply.

Our Take

This card is for loyal American Airlines flyers who actually use Admirals Club, not casual travelers chasing a shiny perk list. The new credits genuinely offset the fee if you book AA Vacations or rent from Avis. Apply before August 23 if you want the current $595 fee and the legacy Grubhub credit. Otherwise, the refreshed version is still worth it for the right frequent flyer.
