American Airlines has announced updates to its AAdvantage® program for 2025. The changes are not massive but there are some significant updates in AA’s partnership with Hyatt. If you’re an American Airlines AAdvantage member, here is all you need to know about these upcoming changes. None of these are very exciting changes unfortunately. To be fair though, programs change all the time and none of the changes are a necessarily bad. AA (and Hyatt) now provides a lot more flexibility that you may or may not want.
Loyalty Points and Status Requirements
The Loyalty Points thresholds for earning AAdvantage status will remain unchanged in 2025. This continuity allows members to plan their travel and reward strategies in the AAdvantage program without adjusting to new requirements.
New Reward Options
Several new Loyalty Point Reward options will be introduced in 2025:
- 15,000 Loyalty Points: Members can receive a personalized luggage tag.
- 100,000 Loyalty Points: World of Hyatt status and Free Night Awards become available. See more below.
- 175,000 Loyalty Points: Members can choose to support sustainable aviation fuel initiatives, reflecting a shift away from carbon offsets as a reward option.
These additions expand the program’s offerings. They provide more flexibility for members to tailor their rewards to their preferences in the AAdvantage program.
Redeeming AAdvantage Miles for Additional Benefits
The Enhance with Miles program will continue to allow members to redeem miles for additional travel benefits. In 2025, new redemption options will include:
- World of Hyatt Free Night Awards. Gold status members are eligible for up to four Category 1-4 stays during the membership year. Platinum Pro members can enjoy up to four Category 1-7 stays.
Existing options will remain part of the program. These include single-day status upgrades, gifting status, and access to Flagship® First Dining.
New Lifetime Status Levels
Starting March 1, 2025, American Airlines AAdvantage will introduce new lifetime status levels for its most frequent flyers:
- Members who have flown 4 million miles will receive lifetime Platinum Pro® status.
- Members who have flown 5 million miles will receive lifetime Executive Platinum® status.
Members who have already achieved these milestones will automatically receive their updated status in early 2025.
Expanded Partnership with Hyatt
The partnership between American Airlines and World of Hyatt will grow in 2025. Members will be able to link their accounts to earn World of Hyatt Free Night Awards through Loyalty Point Rewards. They can also redeem miles for Hyatt stays in the AAdvantage program.
Unfortunately, the ability to simultaneously earn AAdvantage® miles and Hyatt Bonus Points on qualifying stays will end. This change takes effect after December 31, 2024. Members will still be able to earn AAdvantage® miles on Hyatt stays. They can also convert Hyatt points to miles starting in 2025.
New Rewards Coming Soon for AAdvantage and World of Hyatt Members
Starting in 2025, members who link their AAdvantage® and World of Hyatt accounts will have access to a variety of new benefits at every tier. These updates provide enhanced opportunities to earn and redeem rewards across both programs.
AAdvantage Members Accessing World of Hyatt Rewards
The upside here is the ability to use AAdvantage Loyalty points for Hyatt free stays. Interestingly, Depending on the Hyatt properties, these certificates may be very valuable. For example, Grand Hyatt Vail is a Category 7 property that may cost over $500/night. If you have particular travel plans, these certificates might be useful.

Summary
The 2025 AAdvantage® program changes focus on expanding member benefits, adding sustainable travel options, and strengthening partnerships with brands like Hyatt. The updates maintain consistent status thresholds while providing new opportunities for earning and redeeming rewards in the aadvantage program.
Our take is that these updates enhance the integration between AAdvantage® and World of Hyatt, providing more options for members to redeem rewards and unlock exclusive benefits. Whether you’re using miles for Hyatt stays or points for American Airlines perks, these changes offer greater flexibility for both frequent flyers and loyal hotel guests.
